Most things that take place on the machine get recorded in this large database. What this means is that it will get bigger and bigger, if nothing is done to stop it. If an item is deleted in error, then something that relies on that item could malfunction. Because of that, the utility must be able to restore the database to a known working state.

It seems hard to believe that scanning can detect and rectify hundreds of errors, even though there have been no catastrophic failures, just a certain sluggishness. Generally, these programs have lists of tens of thousands of errors they can pinpoint.

These days, you should know how to scan and clean the computer, in the same way as you can do a tidying up operation on a hard drive, or change settings in the browser or other applications.
